Holm Oak Logs

The densest wood we sell and the one that holds a fire longest. Load the burner in the evening and there is still glow at midnight.

If you only order one kind of wood for the winter, order this. It costs more per tonne than the rest and still works out cheaper per hour of heat.

How to use it

What holm oak is good for

Log burners 01

This is what it is for. Dense, slow, and it keeps a bed of embers, so you reload less and the room stays warm between loads.

Open fires 02

Burns steadily without spitting. An open fire eats wood faster than a burner, so order more than you think you need.

Cooking, if you must 03

It works, but it adds no flavour. If you are cooking, olive or fruitwood will do more for the food.

Questions

What people ask us

Is this kiln dried?

No, and we will not pretend otherwise. Our wood is air dried outdoors for more than twelve months and comes in under 20 % moisture, which is what matters for a clean burn. Kiln dried is a British habit; in this climate the sun does the same job.

How much do I need for a winter?

For a villa with a burner used most evenings from December to February, most customers here get through one to two tonnes. Use the calculator on the site for a figure based on your own house.

Will it damage my flue?

Dry hardwood is the safest thing you can burn. Wet wood is what coats a flue with creosote, and that is the reason to care about moisture rather than species.
